Being a work at home Mom is stressful enough without having to
pile through loads of paperwork at inconvenient times. Being
organized is the key to making your life as a work at home Mom efficient and, hopefully, a little less
stressful.
If you can get, and stay, organized not only will your business
flourish, but so will you home life. If there isn’t at least some
small sense of order within your busy life, you’ll end up being swamped with work and overwhelmed with chores in
no time.
Probably one of the most effective ways to getting organized as
a work at home Mom is to set regular business hours. When you have
specific times during the day where you only focus on work, you will get a lot more done and still have time for
the family.
This also has the benefits of being more consistent with your
work because you’ll have a specific start time and a specific ending time, and you’ll be able to manage your
work time better and reduce distractions that tend to pop up like checking email or watching television (c’mon,
we’ve all been guilty of this at one time or another).
You’ll also be less likely to pick up things to do here and
there like laundry or running errands. If you have those set
working hours and consider yourself to be “at work” rather than in a place that allows you to do things as you
will, you’ll be able to schedule those tedious tasks around your work time which will make you more focused
during your working hours.
Family and friends will understand that even though you are at
home, you are working. Especially if you inform them of your
working hours.
Next, don’t be afraid to delegate tasks to other family
members. Although we all want to do things ourselves, it is
important that you have help. When you have work duties on top of
household duties on your list, you’ll quickly realize just how few hours in the day there actually
are.
There is nothing wrong with asking your children to fold
laundry, or having your significant other cook dinner a few nights a week. When you share the household duties as a family, you’ll have more time to get
your work done not to mention feel less stressed and more focused.
Some work at home Moms have issues delegating tasks because
they won’t be done in the exact same manner as you would like. Just
relish in the fact that they are getting done, which frees up your time.
Planning your work and family activities will make the whole
entire house run a lot smoother. Whether you use a planner or your
computer to plan out your day, be sure you write down everything that has to be done and then plan each activity
for a certain amount of time. You’ll then have the opportunity to
manage your time more wisely and be able to work those set hours for yourself.
Even organizing your home at large will help with your
business. While it might take a bit to establish some
organizational habits in your home, your efforts will be well worth it.
Don’t try to get organized in a weekend – work up to a level of
organization. Start with your desk space. Make sure that everything you need is in its place and toss or even donate
things that you don’t need. Then you can move on to another portion
of the hosue.
If something is out of place, it’s easy to put it back in its
“home” once you’ve taken the time to organize your storage spaces around the house. If you have to, take a trip to an office supply store or even a home
improvement store and buy items like bins, cabinets and shelves that will help you become more
organized.
As a work at home Mom, it’s so easy to try and take on
everything ourselves and it’s also easy to get disorganized very quickly. Just realize that with time, your organizational system will get
better.
Work with your family and make your home run efficiently an
then you’ll be able to concentrate during your work when you need to.
